The Aldine theme allows network managers to customize the appearance of your network's home page in several ways.\r\n\r\nTo access the network customization menu click <strong>Appearance<\/strong> from the\u00a0<strong>Administer Network<\/strong> dashboard.\r\n\r\nThis will bring you into the customize interface with a live preview of your site. You will see a menu on the left with a variety of customizable elements.\r\n\r\nYou can click on each element to customize it. The interface displays a live preview so that you can see what your changes look like before saving. Once you\u2019re done making your changes, click <strong>Publish<\/strong> to save your changes. This will make them live across your network.\r\n<h1>Edit Site Identity<\/h1>\r\nThe Site Identity option allows you to edit basic site information, including the title and tagline (subtitle) for your Pressbooks network, upload <span style=\"font-size: 1em;\">your institution's logo, and add a <\/span>site icon.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4747\/2022\/10\/image53.jpg\" alt=\"Select your logo image and site icon on the customization menu\" width=\"1908\" height=\"877\" \/>\r\n<h1>Display a Front Page Catalog<\/h1>\r\nThe Front Page Catalog section allows you to display a simple catalog carousel on the network's landing page and customize its display title.\r\n\r\nTo show a catalog on the landing page of your network, click the <strong>Show Front Page Catalog\u00a0<\/strong>checkbox. These theme colors will be applied to your network root and the webbook reading interface across your network.\r\n\r\nThere are six colors you can change:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li><strong>Primary color<\/strong>: used for links and other primary elements<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Primary color (hover)<\/strong>: Variant of the primary color, used for primary element hover states<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Accent color<\/strong>: used for flourishes and secondary elements<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Accent color (hover)<\/strong>: Variant of the accent color, used for secondary element hover states<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Primary foreground color<\/strong>: used for text on primary color backgrounds<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Accent foreground color<\/strong>: used for text on accent color backgrounds<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nTo change the color of any of these elements:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Click <strong>Select Color<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Enter your brand\u2019s hex color OR\u00a0use the color picker and swatches to change the color of an element (<strong>NOTE:\u00a0<\/strong>you'll see these change in the live preview of your website)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Publish\r\n<img class=\"size-full wp-image-99 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4747\/2022\/10\/pbcolorpicker.png\" alt=\"Enter your hex code or select your color from the prism\" width=\"330\" height=\"433\" \/>\r\n<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Pressbooks will warn you if you select foreground and background color combinations that do not meet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20\/visual-audio-contrast-contrast.html\">WCAG 2.0 AA color contrast<\/a> guidelines for accessibility.<\/div>\r\n<h1>Change the Header Image<\/h1>\r\nYou can add a header image to replace the default image, or change the header images that have already been uploaded.\r\n\r\nTo change the default header image:\r\n\r\n1. Click\u00a0<strong>Add new image\u00a0<\/strong>\r\n\r\n2. Upload your file\r\n\r\n3. Click\u00a0<strong>Publish<\/strong>\r\n<h1>Customize Your Menus<\/h1>\r\nYou can customize two different menus using the <strong>Menus<\/strong> section:\r\n<ul>\r\n \t<li>The Footer Menu (appears in the network footer)<\/li>\r\n \t<li>The Primary Menu (appears in the top navigation bar)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nThe Aldine theme is built to support only these two menus, and we recommend that you don't add others or change their locations.\r\n\r\n<img class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4747\/2022\/10\/image55.png\" alt=\"Screenshot for customizing your footer menu with different pages\" width=\"601\" height=\"685\" \/>By default, the footer menu will contain links to the <strong>About<\/strong>, <strong>Catalog<\/strong>, <strong>Help<\/strong>, and <strong>Home<\/strong> pages, and the primary menu will contain a link to <strong>Home<\/strong>, along with a set of standard user-related options (which cannot be changed).\r\n\r\nClick <strong>Footer Menu<\/strong> or\u00a0<strong>Primary Menu<\/strong> to edit either menu.\u00a0You'll see a list of the pages currently on that menu. Menu items can be reordered by clicking and dragging. To delete an item from the menu, click that item, then scroll down and click\u00a0<strong>Remove.<\/strong> You can also remove pages by clicking\u00a0<strong>Add Items<\/strong>\u2014 a menu will appear to the right, and red Xs will appear next to each page currently on the menu. You can click the red X remove a page from the selected menu.\r\n\r\nMenu items can be pages within your Pressbooks network site (<a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/networkmanagerguide\/chapter\/add-edit-pages-on-your-network\/\">see more on creating pages<\/a>) or custom links to external sites\/pages (i.e. your parent institution website, library website or other important information hosted elsewhere).\r\n<div class=\"textbox shaded\"><strong>NOTE: <\/strong>The Aldine theme does not support the addition of posts, categories, or tags to your menus. Attempting to use any of these options will have no effect.<\/div>\r\n&nbsp;\r\n\r\nTo add a page:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Click on <strong>Add Item<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Pages<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click to choose any of the network pages listed to add them to the menu.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nTo add a custom link:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Click on <strong>Add Items<\/strong><\/li>\r\n \t<li>Under <strong>Custom Link<\/strong> enter the URL and link text to appear in the menu<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Click <strong>Add to Menu<\/strong><\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nOnce you have finished adding menu items, click <strong>Add Items<\/strong> again to save the order. You can add any desired custom CSS code by opening <strong>Additional CSS\u00a0<\/strong>from the <strong>Customization<\/strong> <strong>menu<\/strong>.\r\n<div class=\"textbox shaded\"><strong>NOTE:\u00a0<\/strong>Pressbooks does not offer comprehensive support for CSS changes. These theme colors will be applied to your network root and the webbook reading interface across your network.<\/p>\n<p>There are six colors you can change:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Primary color<\/strong>: used for links and other primary elements<\/li>\n<li><strong>Primary color (hover)<\/strong>: Variant of the primary color, used for primary element hover states<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accent color<\/strong>: used for flourishes and secondary elements<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accent color (hover)<\/strong>: Variant of the accent color, used for secondary element hover states<\/li>\n<li><strong>Primary foreground color<\/strong>: used for text on primary color backgrounds<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accent foreground color<\/strong>: used for text on accent color backgrounds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To change the color of any of these elements:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click <strong>Select Color<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Enter your brand\u2019s hex color OR\u00a0use the color picker and swatches to change the color of an element (<strong>NOTE:\u00a0<\/strong>you&#8217;ll see these change in the live preview of your website)<\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Publish<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-99 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4747\/2022\/10\/pbcolorpicker.png\" alt=\"Enter your hex code or select your color from the prism\" width=\"330\" height=\"433\" \/><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div class=\"textbox\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> Pressbooks will warn you if you select foreground and background color combinations that do not meet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/UNDERSTANDING-WCAG20\/visual-audio-contrast-contrast.html\">WCAG 2.0 AA color contrast<\/a> guidelines for accessibility.<\/div>\n<h1>Change the Header Image<\/h1>\n<p>You can add a header image to replace the default image, or change the header images that have already been uploaded.<\/p>\n<p>To change the default header image:<\/p>\n<p>1. Click\u00a0<strong>Add new image\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2. Upload your file<\/p>\n<p>3. Click\u00a0<strong>Publish<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Customize Your Menus<\/h1>\n<p>You can customize two different menus using the <strong>Menus<\/strong> section:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Footer Menu (appears in the network footer)<\/li>\n<li>The Primary Menu (appears in the top navigation bar)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Aldine theme is built to support only these two menus, and we recommend that you don&#8217;t add others or change their locations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4747\/2022\/10\/image55.png\" alt=\"Screenshot for customizing your footer menu with different pages\" width=\"601\" height=\"685\" \/>By default, the footer menu will contain links to the <strong>About<\/strong>, <strong>Catalog<\/strong>, <strong>Help<\/strong>, and <strong>Home<\/strong> pages, and the primary menu will contain a link to <strong>Home<\/strong>, along with a set of standard user-related options (which cannot be changed).<\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Footer Menu<\/strong> or\u00a0<strong>Primary Menu<\/strong> to edit either menu.\u00a0You&#8217;ll see a list of the pages currently on that menu. Menu items can be reordered by clicking and dragging. To delete an item from the menu, click that item, then scroll down and click\u00a0<strong>Remove.<\/strong> You can also remove pages by clicking\u00a0<strong>Add Items<\/strong>\u2014 a menu will appear to the right, and red Xs will appear next to each page currently on the menu. You can click the red X remove a page from the selected menu.<\/p>\n<p>Menu items can be pages within your Pressbooks network site (<a href=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/networkmanagerguide\/chapter\/add-edit-pages-on-your-network\/\">see more on creating pages<\/a>) or custom links to external sites\/pages (i.e. your parent institution website, library website or other important information hosted elsewhere).<\/p>\n<div class=\"textbox shaded\"><strong>NOTE: <\/strong>The Aldine theme does not support the addition of posts, categories, or tags to your menus. Attempting to use any of these options will have no effect.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To add a page:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <strong>Add Item<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Pages<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click to choose any of the network pages listed to add them to the menu.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>To add a custom link:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <strong>Add Items<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under <strong>Custom Link<\/strong> enter the URL and link text to appear in the menu<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Add to Menu<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Once you have finished adding menu items, click <strong>Add Items<\/strong> again to save the order. Then, click\u00a0<strong>Publish.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Click on the arrow in the top left corner to return to the main <strong>Menus<\/strong> panel.<\/p>\n<h1>Add Footer Widgets<\/h1>\n<p>Widgets are used in Aldine to add content to the network footer block, alongside the footer menu described above. <strong>Network Footer Block 1<\/strong> appears on the left of the footer menu, and <strong>Network Footer Block 2<\/strong> appears in the center.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-101\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4747\/2022\/10\/pbswidgetblocks.png\" alt=\"Network Footer blocks are at the left and middle of your footer menu\" width=\"1344\" height=\"362\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To add content to the footer widget blocks:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>select the block you&#8217;d like to include your content inside from the <strong>Widgets<\/strong> menu (i.e. <strong>&#8216;Network Footer Block 1<\/strong>&#8216;).<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong style=\"orphans: 1; text-align: initial; font-size: 1em;\">+ Add a Widget<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"orphans: 1; text-align: initial; font-size: 1em;\">Choose whether to add a <\/span><strong style=\"orphans: 1; text-align: initial; font-size: 1em;\">Gallery, Image,\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"orphans: 1; text-align: initial; font-size: 1em;\">or\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"orphans: 1; text-align: initial; font-size: 1em;\">Text<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Provide a title (if desired) and insert your desired text or images into the editor<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-102 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/pressbooks.pub\/app\/uploads\/sites\/4747\/2022\/10\/pbwidgetsc.png\" alt=\"Edit your widget\" width=\"274\" height=\"515\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Click <strong style=\"orphans: 1; text-align: initial; font-size: 1em;\">Done<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Click <strong style=\"orphans: 1; text-align: initial; font-size: 1em;\">Publish<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h1><a id=\"additionalcss\"><\/a>Add Additional CSS<\/h1>\n<p>The Aldine theme also lets you define custom CSS which is applied to your network home page and any pages you&#8217;ve created in the root site. You can add any desired custom CSS code by opening <strong>Additional CSS\u00a0<\/strong>from the <strong>Customization<\/strong> <strong>menu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"textbox shaded\"><strong>NOTE:\u00a0<\/strong>Pressbooks does not offer comprehensive support for CSS changes.
